Rail Trail Park

Connecting History &
Public Open Space

Forming the southern edge of the Brewery-Rail Lands boundary — the historical front door to these former industrial lands — a new linear parkway serves as a permanent acknowledgment of the vital role that the railway played in the establishment of our city, the Calgary Brewing & Malting Company, and the brewery’s former industrial neighbours. Rail Trail Park will include high quality linear and nodal experiences, serving as a critical missing link in the open space network, with thoughtful artistic and interpretive elements to create a unique placemaking experience. Rail Trail Park responds to a key opportunity to create much needed connections between Brewery-Rail Lands and surrounding area amenities, open space networks, and alternative transportation options like the future Green Line LRT, existing MAX Purple Line BRT, local area pedestrian / cycling network, and regional pathway system. As a result of stakeholder feedback, Rail Trail Park has been widened from the originally proposed 10m to 12m.
